Regional powers seek to prevent renewed military escalation
Diplomatic efforts surrounding Iran’s nuclear program are gaining momentum as Qatar and other regional states seek to reduce tensions between Tehran and Washington.
Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and U.S. President Donald Trump discussed regional de-escalation and diplomatic efforts during a phone conversation on Feb. 11, while Iranian officials also held consultations in Doha following recent indirect U.S.–Iran talks in Oman.

Qatar emerges again as a regional mediator
Qatar has increasingly positioned itself as an intermediary in some of the Middle East’s most difficult diplomatic disputes.
The latest contacts come as Washington and Tehran explore whether negotiations can prevent another major military confrontation.
Iran has insisted that its missile program is not open for negotiation, while the United States and Israel have expressed concerns not only about Iran’s nuclear activities but also about its ballistic missile program and support for armed groups across the region.

Israel seeks broader agreement on Iran
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pressing Washington to take a broader approach toward negotiations with Iran.
Israel has argued that any agreement should address Iran’s missile capabilities and its relationships with regional groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas in addition to the nuclear issue.
Washington, however, appears determined to continue diplomacy while maintaining military pressure as leverage.

Diplomacy faces major obstacles
The renewed negotiations represent an important opportunity for de-escalation, but significant differences remain between the two sides.
Iran continues to defend its right to uranium enrichment, while the United States has emphasized the need to prevent Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
Whether the diplomatic process can bridge these differences remains uncertain.
For Gulf countries including Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, avoiding another regional conflict remains a major priority because any military escalation involving Iran could quickly affect energy supplies, maritime transportation and economic stability across the region.
