HIMEA is a research institute dedicated to promoting a deeper understanding of the Middle East and enhancing academic and cultural cooperation between Korea and the region. The institute brings together scholars, policymakers, and professionals with expertise in Middle Eastern affairs, aiming to foster informed dialogue and build lasting partnerships across sectors.

Although the Middle East holds vast potential and strategic importance, it remains relatively unfamiliar to many in Korea due to its distinct languages, cultures, and social systems. Historically, the region has played a crucial role as a bridge between East and West. With its abundant natural resources, advanced logistics infrastructure, skilled workforce, and growing demand for digital and technological innovation, the Middle East is an increasingly vital partner for Korea’s future cooperation and growth.

In recent years, the enthusiasm shown by Middle Eastern societies toward Korean culture has further opened doors for deeper exchange. We believe this growing interest offers new opportunities for research, dialogue, and collaboration across public, private, and academic sectors.

HIMEA is committed to advancing understanding of the Middle East through research, publications, academic forums, and cultural engagement. Our goal is to contribute meaningfully to Korea–Middle East relations and to serve as a trusted platform for international exchange.
